To invest in the development of bio-technologies for the food, future-generation bio-energy and health markets which produce high-value commercial products that are environmentally sustainable.
Our criteria:
To invest long-term, in well-balanced and sustainable technologies that are achieved either through plant breeding; through genetic modification of appropriate plant varieties; or through the use of technologies that have a positive impact on the environment and global health; and each enterprise must be led by an experienced market-driven entrepreneur.
Our strategy:
We see plants as nature's factories that work with the sun, soil, water and nutrients to create the food, bio-energy and health technologies that are the basis of the intellectual property of companies we invest in. We identified companies who were trying to solve critical environmental problems in innovative and commercial ways. From these, we have selected and invested in a few enterprises that have a range of interrelated agricultural bio-technologies serving more than one market. In this way, we have achieved synergies and technology co-operation between the companies we have invested in.
We have concentrated our investments on emerging technologies in agriculture. The companies have a strong management team and a professional ability to identify superior bio-technology intellectual property designed to ensure a long-term, balanced and sustainable product pipeline.
Our primary focus is on food, bio-energy and health products: functional foods; pharmaceutical products; and future-generation sources of energy.
Our secondary focus is on resource conservation and measures to prevent pollution: improving soil quality through the use of plant-derived herbicides and pesticides; treating various forms of suitable liquid waste for the recovery of water, methane gas, fertilizer and delivering cleaner effluent suitable for main-stream waste water treatment.
